The colors of aso-oke you choose for your traditional engagement wedding day set the style and tone for your entire event. Like we know, traditional engagement ceremonies are usually colorful and full of life and activites. There are several ways you can implement your choice of colors, from the decorations, cake, favors, accessories, table linens and even the invitations! One tip: make sure you choose the colors you love, typically, you want a maximum of three to five colors in your palette: one to dominate, a second to support, and a third as the accent. For example if you choose black, white and yellow, your decor and cake can be white with a support colour of either black and yellow, you eru-iyawo can be wrapped in yellow or black and white, your aso-ebi can be Yellow, with a silver gele etc. However, you must wear a completely different colour of traditional engagement attire, because you clearly need to stand out from everything and everybody else!
We know so much has been said about choosing colors, which colors go perfectly with each other etc. However, it’s very important that you understand certain words to guide you in the process of finding the perfect colours for your traditional engagement wedding attire.
“Complementary” colors means choosing colors that are opposite each other on the wheel, such as red and green.
“Analogous” means the colors lie next to each other on the wheel, such as red, red-orange, and orange.
“Monochromatic” means variations of the same tone, such as bright red, dark red, etc.
Another tip: Try to limit your main colors to two or three so as not to look too jumbled and stay consistent with your colors throughout the wedding. Use a few subdued colors for a more elegant look.
